Conference Silesian days of preventive medicine

The traditional conference with an international participation was held on March 21-23, 2018 by the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian-Silesian Region in cooperation with the University Hospital in Ostrava. The conference, which was held this year for the eighteenth time, was included in the system of lifelong education in the health service and took place again in the Mountain Motel Sepetná in Ostravice. The patronage was taken over by the Chief Hygienist of the Czech Republic, governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Czech Medical Chamber.

After the ceremonial opening and guests welcoming MUDr. Helena Šebáková, Director of the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian-Silesian Region, handed the floor to the Chief Hygienist of Slovakia, Mgr. RNDr. MUDr. Jan Mikas, Ph.D., who greeted and welcomed the present situation in the field of public health protection in Slovakia. MUDr. Aleny Šteflová, Ph.D., MPH (Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic), focused on the conclusions of the Sixth Ministerial Conference of WHO "Environment and Health", which took place in Ostrava on 13-15 June 2017 (more information here). At the end of this conference, the delegates adopted the document entitled The Ostrava Declaration containing steps to improve the environment and the health of the individual population (more information here). MUDr. Helena Šebáková then introduced the challenges in public health protection in the Moravian-Silesian Region, emphasizing the need for valid information that can serve as a basis for the health policy of the region. In the next presentation MUDr. Veronika Mičulková (SZÚ, Prague) introduced the document "New National Program of HIV / AIDS in the Czech Republic for the period 2018-2022", which was adopted by the Czech government at the end of 2017.

Among the main topics of this three-day conference were included vaccination issues, infectious epidemiology, nutrition and health, nutrition and food safety, drinking water, health and the environment, health and work environment, ATB resistance and sexually transmitted infections. A very important part of the conference was traditionally a poster section. The authors provided interesting information on population vaccination coverage, on the possibilities of prevention of child injuries. Part of the posters was devoted to the influence of dustiness on morbidity and mortality in Moravian-Silesian Region, the content of pesticides in drinking water and the issue of internet trade.

The 18th year of the conference was again a great interest. The number of participants reached 250, 51 lectures and 19 posters took place. There have been some serious current themes from a wide range of experts from different areas. This multidisciplinary approach has traditionally led to rich debates and conclusions. The pleasant atmosphere of the mountain hotel Sepetná, the possibility of using the wellness center and the Hippies style evening led to the welfare of all those involved. We thank everyone for their goodwill every year and look forward to next meeting.
